From Omak, WA to Glacier, MT - day 2

On day 2 we drove from Omak to Glacier. We had another really nice, good and fun day of driving. Today we saw the dryness of NE Washington and then back into greenness of MT. We were in a little more of a hurry this day when we realized that we needed to get to our cabin by 8 pm. We stopped for lunch at the Crossroads Cafe somewhere between Tiger and Cusick, WA. Our food was really tasty. Unfortunately we didn't get any pictures of our lunch stop. We did make it in time - and with no tickets - although a police officer going the opposite direction hand motioned for us to slow down! :) We arrived into Glacier just as the sun was setting and got some really pretty pictures of Lake MacDonald. If you have never been to Glacier, I'd encourage you to go - it is amazingly beautiful!

The hotel we stayed in Monday night - Stampede Inn!

Pretty green grass and a river

The colors were amazing this day

A cafe and store in the middle of no where!

Republic, Wa. We didn't stop and look around but it sure was a cute town.

Downtown Republic

The only accident we witnessed on our journey

Pretty blue water

Welcome to Kettle FAlls - 1640 nice people and 1 grouch! (We actually turned around to take this picture)

Colville - I spent a year in this area. I still remembered where some people lived and was wishing that we could spend more time there - but we had to keep going.

Gorgeous water

I think we were in MT at this point

More pretty water

A buffalo in a box. Dennis remembers this being here from when he grew up in Kalispell, MT.

Yippee! We made it - Glacier National Park!

Pretty West Glacier sign!

Us at Lake MacDonald - tired from traveling all day - yet extremely happy to finally be in Glacier

Living area - dining table and our bed

The 2nd bedroom - we could have fit at least 4 more people in this cabin. I think the couch folded out into a bed too. Any takers for joining us next year?

From Mt. Vernon, WA to Omak, WA - day 1

On Monday we drove from Auburn, WA to Omak, WA. We got a later start than we had planned but since we were on vacation, neither of us were in a huge hurry or felt pressure to get going early. On our way out of Seattle we had to stop and get a camera battery charger. Yes, horror of horrors, I had forgotten to pack ours. If you ever need a battery or charger of any kind - check out Batteries Plus. They were awesome in helping us! Then of course we had to eat lunch at Ivars fish house! :) Since we didn't want to drive too much of our journey during night we stopped just after dark in Omak, WA. Since we were taking the scenic route we thought it would be nice to 'see' the sights around us! When we arrived into Omak - we noticed the sky was lit up - there was a forest fire 6 miles away! We checked into our hotel and then walked to North Country Pub for dinner! They have amazing food - we both had hamburgers!

Some pretty mountains in NE Washington

Just pretty scenery

Concrete, WA

Pretty water on our journey

We stopped at a turn off and had fun walking around and looking at an old dam.

Pretty scenery at the turn off.

The water which was way below the trail

A really old dam. It was fun looking down on it.

The colors were pretty that day - of the water and trees.

The sign about the Gorge High Dam and how they built it - in case you were interested in reading it at all! :) We found it fascinating while we were ther!

Us!

At another pull out. We were so high up! And it was incredibly windy! I watched a man's baseball cap fly off his head! Luckily for him, he caught it!

Me at the pull out

Another cool picture.

Mountain peeking up - still traveling!

Pretty mountains - I think we were getting close to Winthrop

Some more pretty mountains. This sort of looks like Glacier to me.

Us in Winthrop!

Winthrop! My family used to go here every year - but I don't remember this town. I'd like to come back someday and spend more time here. It was a quaint and fun little town.

The Chevron in Winthrop! I like how they made it to look old townish too!

Road trip

Dennis and I took a road trip immediately after convention. We didn't even go home. Sunday evening (August 28th) we drove up to Auburn and stayed with Uncle Jerry. Monday we drove as far as Omak, WA and got a hotel for the night. Tuesday and Wednesday nights we were in Glacier National Park. Thursday-Saturday nights we were in Shelby, MT. Sunday night (actually Monday morning at 2 am) we were in Spokane and Monday evening (September 5th) we were finally home! We took the scenic route which was amazing. We took our time Monday and part of Tuesday (until we realized we'd be late for checking in to our hotel in Glacier). Here is a map of the route that we took. I think that I will split our trip into several posts.

Convention

We had a wonderful convention. Quite a few of Dennis' relatives came so he sent up a total of 4 tents for everyone to stay in - close to us. We had lots of chairs around our tents and many fun visits and laughs too. We shared some great days together!

Ava drinking her frappuccino - she would say "Jen dontcha want a frappuccino?" So, I'd get one and share it with her! :) Another reason she's super smart - she already loves coffee! :)
